Digital LED screens replace traditional signage at recycling stations

We have started rolling out digital screens to replace traditional signage above containers at recycling stations. The screens are waterproof and feature high brightness, ensuring good visibility in all conditions. The solution makes waste management remarkably simple, as staff can easily update information about which types of waste go where — via an intuitive touch interface.

Why digital screens?

Traditional signage at recycling stations fades in the sun, becomes difficult to read in bad weather, and requires physical replacement every time waste categories change. Digital LED screens eliminate these problems. When a container switches waste type, staff update the sign in seconds via the touch screen — without having to order and hang new physical signs.

No more unnecessary container shuffling

Previously, recycling stations had to physically move containers around to adapt to changing needs — for example when one waste type suddenly received more traffic than usual. The container for that waste type had to be in a specific location because the physical sign above it was fixed in place.

With digital screens, there's no need to move containers. Staff can simply change which waste type applies to which container directly on the touch screen. Does the station need to handle more garden waste in spring? Just change the waste type on an available container — without moving anything at all. When needed, multiple waste types can also be activated simultaneously, so the station is always tailored to actual demand.

Custom-built by LEDFRONT

The entire solution is developed in-house by LEDFRONT's own developers — purpose-built for this application. From the control system to the user interface, everything is designed and built in-house. This gives us full control over functionality and further development, and means we can quickly adapt the solution based on customer feedback.

The intuitive touch interface is designed for station staff. With a few taps, they can change which waste type applies to a given container, add new categories, or update instructions. It requires no technical expertise — just tap, select, and update.
