Media facades
The building as a surface — transparent LED integrated into the facade, not bolted onto it
A media facade is a different thing from a screen hung on a wall. Here the lit surface is part of the architecture, and it has to work when switched off too — in daylight people should see the building, not a black rectangle. That is why we work with transparent LED mesh mounted behind or within the glazing: strips of LED that let daylight through from inside, with up to 90 percent transparency depending on the pattern chosen. Viewing distances in a city are long, which permits a coarser pixel pitch than indoors — the surface can be large without resolution driving the build.
Built to perform
Preserves daylight inside
Transparent mesh lets daylight through the facade, so the offices behind keep their view and light. The surface is nearly invisible from inside during the day.
Follows the building geometry
Panels can be built curved, angled and in irregular shapes. The surface adapts to the rhythm of the facade instead of laying a rectangle over it.
Visible in daylight
Up to 10,000 nits keeps content readable in daylight against a bright sky. Automatic dimming takes the level down as it gets dark.
Dimensioned for climate
IP69K-rated components operating from –40 to +60 °C. The structure is calculated for wind loads at the relevant facade height.
Engineered with the architect
We join early in design and supply drawings, sections and in-context visualisations. The solution is fitted to the facade while it can still change.
Light pollution under control
Brightness, direction and night levels are configured to municipal requirements and neighbouring properties. The surface can dim or switch off at set times.
Use cases
Glazed commercial facades
Transparent mesh behind the glass that preserves daylight inside. The building keeps its character when the surface is off.
Cultural buildings and landmarks
The facade as a surface for programme and art. Content follows the building's own calendar.
Hotels and retail buildings
Branding towards the public realm at a scale read from distance. Coarser pixel pitch used deliberately for large surfaces.
Car parks and technical buildings
Buildings with closed facades turned into something worth looking at. Lighting and content in the same surface.
New builds in design
A media facade planned in before the facade is built. Fixings, cabling and service access resolved in the structure.
